OREGON
TRAVEL INFORMATION
From the ocean to the desert, from the cities to the Mountains,
an Oregon vacation can be anything you want it to be. An epic hike
among lofty peaks, A quiet stroll on an empty beach. A heart-stopping
run through whitewater rapids. Or a side-splitting laugh during
a Shakespearean comedy. But one thing's for sure - the sense of
beauty and serenity you'll discover will linger long after your
pictures have been developed .
Into the Outdoors - the wild and sometimes woolly endeavors
that Oregon does best, like camping, hiking, backpacking, fishing,
rafting, windsurfing, rock climbing, wildlife viewing and even hang
gliding.
Resorts
and Retreats - our incredible array of luxurious golf destinations,
complete family playgrounds, rustic fishing lodges and everything
else in between.
The
Land of Plenty - how to eat, drink and be merry in Oregon with
all of our famous fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, fish beef,
microbrews, wines, flowers and Christmas trees.
Crossroads
of Culture-how to immerse yourself in our rich cultural history,
as well as our performing and visual arts and annual events.
Winter
Wonders -skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, whale
watching an many other things to do when the rest of the country
is hibernating indoors.
Seven
Diverse Regions: These regions were shaped by volcanic upheaval,
forged by relentless rivers and waves, and tempered by a vast high
desert. The end results are landscapes, climates and activities
that are dramatically varied.
The
Coast is legendary for its windswept scenery, charming lighthouses,
endless beaches and seaside towns. Follow the rugged shoreline from
border to border, past scores of state parks and waysides.
Portland
is the state's commercial and cultural hub, where the Willamette
River flows into the Columbia. "The City of Roses" is famous for
its assortment of parks, festivals, restaurants, microbreweries,
shops, and museums as well as orchards and vineyards in the surrounding
rural areas.
Mt.
Hood and The Columbia River Gorge present some of Oregon's most
breathtaking scenery and year-round recreation, all within an hour
or so of Portland.
The
Willamette Valley is still "The Promised Land" for visitors seeking
a garden of earthly delights, including fruits, nuts, flowers and
wines. The pioneer legacy still thrives in the many culturally vibrant
cities.
Southern
Oregon offers a potpourri of natural and cultural wonders. Rafters
come to tame the wild Rogue River. Theater aficionados flock to
the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. And blues lovers
venture to Crater Lake for its everchanging shades of sapphire and
indigo.
Central
Oregon is a year-round playground that gears up for skiing at Mt.
Bachelor, fly-fishing, rock climbing, hiking, whitewater rafting,
mountain biking, horseback riding and golf on some of the finest
courses on the planet.
Eastern
Oregon takes up about half of the map of Oregon. But no map can
do justice to the depth of the beauty in Hells Canyon nor the heights
of grandeur on Steens Mountain. You'll be equally impressed by the
depth of wagon wheel ruts along the Oregon Trail, and the height
a feisty bull can toss a cow-poke.
